Default Domination Energy Denial. Me/N

Hi everyone,

This build is going to be for PVP mostly GVG with some Arena mixed in. Tell me what you think!

Mesmer
Fast Casting: 8
Domination Magic: 16 - Superior (+3)
Illusion Magic: 0
Inspiration Magic: 0

Necromancer
Blood Magic: 10
Curses: 0
Death Magic: 0


Offering of Blood
Blackout
Energy Burn
Power Leak
Mind Wrack
Signet of Weariness
Blood Renewal
Resurrection Signet

Just a bit about each:

Order of Blood: This is the key to Energy in this build. I don't have any points into Inspiration, nor are there any of those to actually gain energy. I find this is the best method to go, even if though you have to sack life. Blood Renewel should help off set this.

Blood Renewal: Great spell IMO. Gives you very fast regeneration for those hexes that'll surely be on you, and after the spell is done (only 10 seconds and has a quick recharge time) you will gain almost 150 health which should be enough to get you back to full health.

Blackout: One of my favorite spells, not only in this build but in the game. This is very key in a lot of ways. Shuts down Monks completely, makes spellcasters nearly useless. I even use it on rangers/warriors when I know they are buffed and ready to make a huge spike. The 7 seconds to my 5 is also nice because I will be able to get off at least 1 spell during that time. A well timed Blood Renewal after can get me back to full health.

Energy Burn: Typical Energy denial spell. Takes away 10 energy and deals 80 damage.

Mind Wrack: With this build it will be very simple to take someone's energy to zero. Foe taking 95 damage for 5E is pretty worthwhile to me.

Power Leak: This is a huge hit on the energy and also cancels a spell at the same time. The only drawback is it don't stop skills in general (so can't stop Res signet). The purpose though is that we would have an interupting ranger or Mesmer in the group so this shouldn't be a problem. 26 energy is some people's entire Pool.

Signet of Weariness: Mass Energy denial taking out 10E for every foe in the area.

Res signet: Shouldn't need to explain.

So the purpose is obvious and maybe isn't a standard Mes build. Normally Dom mesmers are skill denial from what I see, this is more energy denial while doing damage at the same time for having an empty mana pool. This takes a bit of practice to learn how to play properly and is very team oriented, since the damage output doesn't match what the rest of the group is going to dish out. That being said you can completely neutralize 1 or 2 enemy spell casters at a time while even doing a fair amount of damage. Its hard for a Monk to heal itself if he/she has no energy and cannot cast anything.

I am worried about you may get spiked if you use OoB and/or Blood renewal before the the bonus of blood renewal kicks in.

I thought about that as well Coldplay.

And I am not sure if that is a huge risk or not. I thought though if I learned how to time things appropriately that I may be able to pull that off. But agreed, if I get spiked by someone before the renewal kicks in Ill be dead.

That being said however, I am pretty squishy as it is, and I can normally get spiked within 3-4 seconds anyways even at full health. So I dont think it would matter a whole lot.

How does the build look overall? Is there anything you would suggest I would change to make this better or do you think it actually could be decent?

I would go inspiration for Energy Drain+Ether feast...main attribute and no hp sacking+they can trigger mind wrack.
Also might give inspired hex/drain enchantment/mana tap a look while we are here.

If you use only Blackout as Shutdown, I really don't think you'll be able to

Otherwise, I don't see much of a problem. This is sort of old, though. E-Denial + Mind Wrack spamming was quite common before...

I would take Inspiration, get Energy Drain or Echo + Energy Tap or something of the sort. I'd let the Monks heal you instead of bringing a self heal. I'll post the build I like more:

Fast Casting: 6 +1
Domination: 12 +3 +1
Illusion: 7 +1 (Distortion -2)
Blood Magic: 9

Energy Burn
Signet of Weariness
Echo {E}
Arcane Echo (My playstyle, but I do have a Blood Ritual on my back :P)/Blood Renewal
Mind Wrack/Blood Ritual
Power Leak - Never out of my build, either.
Power Drain/Energy Tap
Resurrection Signet

Tweak as needed, and yeah. I would stick with Arcane Echo, Blood Ritual, and Power Drain, but it's yours anyways.

For Roy,

Could you please post this E-Surger build you are taking about? Sorry if thats maybe a stupid question but Im pretty new to all of this so the build I made was really just off the top of my head from learning how to play and some reading and research So Im trying to get a handle on what a really good Domination build would consist of. I don't think my build is the greatest by any stretch (hense my posting here) so I want to try and get some feedback on other good builds that I could test and tweak.

For all the other really great comments,

What would you think the best Elite to use if not for OoB? Perhaps that is a bit overkill since Ill have enough Energy Management anyways and could use the elite for a better use. LightningHell talked about Echo(which Ill definitely try), so would this be good in this type of build? Given the fact that a lot of the spells are going to be used for interupts? It has a time limit is all I was thinking, so maybe a bit situational? Anyways, I plan to give some of these a try and see how they go. I am sure you know much more about this than me so I will definitely give your suggestion a try! I am just curious if you(or anyone) had other suggestions to try as well.

Really cannot wait for the expansion.... A or Rt /Me FTW Its funny... because when I play other characters it just isn't the same and its hard to play anything that isn't a Mesmer now. Their spells are just so awesome, and they have so many options like this.

That looks like a really good skillbar to be honest.

Maybe I should be aiming more towards this.

Basically Im looking for a nice Mesmer build to go to GVG with, in addition to being able to do good in RA. So far Im using an Ineptitude build which I admit is pretty fun and Im liking the play style so far. So Im going to play around with that for a bit and maybe see where this leads.

I also am a huge fan of blackout. I just find its so useful. When I first read the description my initial thought was "why is this so good... you loose your own skills too" but its such a bad distruption against EVERYTHING... a well timed Blackout can hose a Warrior, Caster, doesn't matter the class. It totally throws them off and thats what I enjoy. So I think I have to play Blackout in everything now

Anyways, thanks again for the comments. Ill probably keep my Ineptitude build for RA since it does really well and focus on this for GVG where it would be most useful.

That is a Surge build, of which, I've heard, is used with 2 of these and 2 air ele with blinding and such.

Im using same build as Roy on balanced groups, works well, and also in RA/TA too!
